November 3rd: A Conversation about Marriage Equality with Bishop Gene Robinson and Gabe Lyons at Memorial Church
In the past year, many states have passed laws supporting marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples; the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Prop 8 on a technicality; and there has been an overwhelming shift in public opinion in support of marriage equality that has translated into more and more politicians lining up to support it. Christian churches and denominations are also becoming more welcoming and accepting, not only of LGBT ministers, but of marriage equality. And yet many Christians are confused and even angry about this growing acceptance of LGBT rights believing it to be contrary to scripture and the norms of our tradition. As evidence of this, many churches have left or are in the process of leaving their denominations for denominations that are more theologically conservative. Join us for a conversation about the state of marriage equality in the church today.
